Indonesia has been re-elected as a Category C member of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the period of 2009-2011 collecting 132 out of 153 votes. Indonesia as a maritime country had already played its role as an IMO Council member by especially prioritizing safety in the country`s shipping activities. The re-election was the result of hard work from all stakeholders dealing with marine resources and diplomatic approaches by Indonesian representatives in the IMO.
Indonesia is projected to require an investment of up to US$4 billion to finance its energy efficiency program. The investment need means an opportunity for domestic and foreign financial institutions.
The Indonesian government hoped the forthcoming special session of GC/GMEF in Bali will increasingly focus on the environment in the national development not only as the materialization of Indonesia`s environmental diplomacy.
Prof. Dr. Siti Musdah Mulia meraih penghargaan sebagai Women of the Year 2009 dari Italia atas kiprahnya dalam memberikan sumbangan nyata pada upaya pemberdayaan perempuan. Siti Musdah Mulia juga dikenal sebagai teolog dan ahli hukum yang terbuka pada tradisi multikulturalisme, dan aktif dalam dialog antaragama. Pemberian penghargaan ini juga mendapat pengakuan dari Presiden Republik Italia.
